Calgary, Alberta

Client:

Gibbs Gage Architects

Summary

The new project is a mixed-use development located just east of the downtown core of Calgary, in an area undergoing significant redevelopment.  The site consisted of a retail podium, with two residential towers of more than 25-storeys.  The client was concerned about the impact the development would have on pedestrian wind conditions surrounding the site, as well as wind conditions in the various outdoor amenity spaces on the podium.

Novus’ consultation included:

  • Pedestrian wind comfort analysis utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software
  • Comparison of analysis to established pedestrian wind criterion, required for Development Permit
