Summary

Novus was retained by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) to conduct noise measurements of sound levels from various noise-reducing asphalt mixes laid in test sections along the Hamilton-bound section of Highway 405, between Stations 12+000 and 14+500, near Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The purpose of the measurement program was to evaluate the noise generation of five test pavement sections, through measurements of pass-by noise, and measurements of noise measured near the tire, using the On-Board Sound Intensity (OBSI) method outlined in AASHTO TP-76-09 test method. In order to comply with the AASHTO test method, Novus designed and built a custom sound level meter/intensity probe enabling precise measurements of noise from the tire.
