Dr. Qiu has over 20 years of experience in air quality, meteorology, and climate modelling. He has led a wide range of regional air quality modelling and emission inventory projects, and environmental impact assessment works for mining, smelters, electric power generations and oiling and gas development in Canada and internationally. Xin earned his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science at York University in 2002, and has been a senior mentor/specialist on air quality models for over a decade. His air quality modelling expertise covers CALMET/CALPUFF, AERMOD, and regional airshed models such as CMAQ, and 3D meteorological models GEM-LAM, MM5 and WRF. He is certified as an Accredited Consulting Meteorologist (ACM) by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS), and entitled as an Environmental Professional (EP) on Air Quality certified by ECO Canada.

Dr. Qiu’s expertise is also recognized throughout the environmental modelling communities and academic / education sectors. He is an Adjunct Professor of York University on climate change and implementation, and he is a graduate student supervisor at Royal Road University (British Columbia). Currently he serves as an Expert Reviewer on the latest IPCC AR5 Working Groups I and II, focusing on climate change extreme analysis, impact and adaptation. He is an invited member of the expert panel for reviewing climate and air quality studies by the US EPA (STAR Program).
